Alan Raymond Knibbs 1925-2014 Alan was born in Lawford Heath, Rugby, Warwickshire. He joined the Royal Navy and became a shipwright. In 1944, towards the end of WW2, he was attached to the Royal Navy Commandos for Special Operations at the Normandy landings, keeping the boats repaired and running. These landings brought about the liberation of German occupied France (and later Europe) from Nazi control, and laid the foundations for allied victory on the western front. After the end of the war, in1947, he married Edith Wilson and they had three children. |
