Harold George KNIBBS |
|
Harold George Knibbs, my father, b. Basingstoke, Nov 1913 lived here at 11 Avondale Road, Newport, Isle of Wight with his wife Pearl, my yomnger sister Elizabeth and me. He bought the house in 1964 when the company he worked for moved him to the Isle of Wight. He live there until 1997, when ill health forced him to move closer to me. | |
The house sat in a double plot of land, and Harold, being a keen gardener, used
half the second plot as a lawn area and the other half for vegetables. Not
visible in the photo was an old protected building, dating from the early days
when there was a coaching station on the land. The house was built onto the
original coach-house keepers cottage (which became the kitchen) and the
coach-house itself became a double garage. Harold sold the house in 1998 when it was modernised, and the spare plot used to build two new houses. This latest photograph is from February 2016. |
