Brian George Duffin, 1939-2015 |
Brian was born in Basingstoke, Hampshire, the son of Thomas George
Duffin and his wife Irene May Crook. He was a very keen motorcycle
enthusiast as a young man and was very successful in the motorcycle
trials and scrambling circuits at the time. After school, he served several years in the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers
branch of the army. Throughout his entire life,
he had an immense passion for anything filled with oil and moving parts! He grew up with his parents in the village of Kempshott, Basingstoke almost directly opposite my own parents' house. He clearly knew my sister Janet from their younger days, having attended the same school. They first dated whilst Brian was serving in the army, and married in 1963. Not overly keen on the prospect of living in married quarters in Germany, he left the army for civilian life where he enjoyed a lifetime career of working with heavy machinery at home and overseas. Brian and Jan had three sons, each of whom had their own motorcycle built for them by Brian himself, rather than inferior shop bought models. After retirement, he gained immense pleasure from rebuilding older motorcyles, Land Rovers and farm machinery, and is seen here showing off one of his favourites - his Old Grey Fergie.
