James Arthur KNIBBS

1885-1963

James was born in 1885 at Braunston, Northamptonshire and for the early part of his life up to and probably beyond 1911, he worked with his father Henry on the canal boat "Ebony" from the Fellows & Mortons Wharf, Northampton.

In 1915, he married Olive STOKES from Tipton in Staffordshire. They had nine children. The birth locations of their children indicate that James and Olive moved between Warwickshire, Bedfordshire, Middlesex and Northamptonshire between 1915 to 1929. They eventually settled in the Ealing District of Middlesex where they retired.

Olive was also from the canal boat community. Her father was the master of Gamba and Lilac.

I believe the photo was taken at the wedding of his daughter Olive in Middlesex in 1945 when James would have been aged 60.
