"The Tickly Ogre" & "The Princess & The Poo Head Witch"
by
Luca, Carl and Meg KNIBBS

Created 25 March, 2013

The first book, The Tickly Ogre, was written in May 2010 by father and son team, Carl Knibbs and Luca (age 5) bringing to life the fun they enjoy at family holidays in Portugal and playing with pretend sea creatures in the bath at home. The sequel, The Tickly Ogre, In Search of a Shark teaches children the moral of not judging people before you get to know them and introduces a range of sea creatures in the story. Daughter and younger sister Meg joined the team in 2013 when they jointly wrote the book The Proicess & the Poo Head Witch.

The Tickly Ogre

We've always loved to draw as a family and this character and subsequent book is the result of both Luca and Meg's imagination and fun weekend mornings spent doodling and daydreaming. The character, unsurprisingly, loves all the things my young children were/are interested in: trains, cars, planes, animals and rockets.
The pages are very colourful and end with the thing that Luca and Meg love above all else, tickling. It's been very nice to see the book out on almost permanent loan in Herts libraries, a completely unexpected joy to read the book with the children in their classes at school and a treat for the whole family to have the book featured in the local press.

The Tickly Ogre, In Search Of A Shark

It was the immense fun, reward and success of our first book that drove us to write and illustrate a second. The Tickly Ogre - 'In Search of A Shark' combines the invention of their character with Meg and Luca's love of sea creatures. In the book The Tickly Ogre and his underwater companion Bubbles are warned off searching for a shark. A sharks reputation precedes it. But the two realise one shouldn't necessarily listen to hearsay. When they eventually find a shark they are in for a pleasant surprise. The book features lots more tickles and a host of the children's favourite creatures from under the sea.

The Princess & The Poo Head Witch

My daughter Meg has loved princesses from the word go. Our third and latest book is largely her spin on the classic princess stories she loves. Our pretty princess finds herself in peril but survives and manages to have the last word. Luca wanted the book to appeal to both boys and girls, so as well as The Poo Head Witch herself (all children giggle at poo!) Meg and Luca created three challenges that the prince needs to perform to rescue the princess in distress. The feedback for this book has been tremendous with both primary and nursery school children enjoying it (especially the book's pinkness!)
