Derick (or Pete as he was always known) was the son of James Beard and his wife Dolly Miles. He served in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Nelson as a Boy Sailor between 1942 and 1945. He was awarded the Burma Star for his service during WWII and was a proud member of the Burma Star Association.

BEARD, Derrick (known as Pete). Passed away peacefully at St. Marys Hospital on Tuesday. June 13, aged 78 years. Much loved husband of the late Patricia Beard and father of Shirley. Avril. Linda. Angela and Peter. Loved grandfather and great-grandfather and lifelong friend to Pete Campbell. He will be greatly missed by all family and friends. Funeral service at Newport Crematorium on Thursday. June 22 at 1.30pm. Family flowers only but any donations, if desired. to Cancer Research.

Pete's ashes are buried beneath a commemorative plaque in the Garden of Remembrance at Whippingham, together with those of his wife Pat.


Notes for Patricia Margaret PETTY:

Pat was the daughter of Frank Petty and his wife Margaret Fennerell. Frank was born on the Isle of Wight but Margaret was from Barrinstown, County Kildare, Ireland. Frank Petty died in 1936, and Margaret remarried to a man named Stanley Taylor.

Following the death of her stepfather, Stanley Taylor, Pat took over the running of his furniture shop, Taylor's of Ryde on the Isle of Wight.
