THE SAME NAME But Not His Post Office Book.
SAPPER FINED £25 After CpI. Edward Thomas Robert Sidwell, R.E., had been posted away from Chatham in 1946, the Post Office authorities sent his savings bank book to his previous address at Kitchener Barracks.
By mistake the book was handed to Dennis John Sidwell, a 23-years-old sapper R.E., who was at the time stationed at Kitchener Barracks.
This was stated at Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, when Dennis Sidwell admitted he had used the book to obtain a total of £19 by false pretences.
Defendant told the Court that he wanted the money in order to get married before he went overseas. He was in fact married September, 1946, and later served abroad.
Accused was given a good Army character by an officer.
He was fined a total of £25 and ordered to pay £5 12s Id expenses.
