Edith and Alan were married at St Michaels Church, Stoke, Coventry, England.

Alan was a shipwright in the Royal Navy and was attached to the Royal Navy Commandos for Special Operations during WW2. He was on the beaches at Normandy keeping the boats repaired and running.

From the Coventry Evening Telegraph, 09 May 1972, we see that in 1947, Alan became an equal partner with a man named Sydney Edwards in a Do-it-Yourself business called Edwards and Knibbs. They undertook carpentry and joinery contracts and were successful for many years. In 1956 Sydney's wife took ill and he had to spend a great deal of time looking after her. Business suffered as a result, but picked up again in 1968 and they moved to bigger premises. Sadly, they seem to have overstretched themselves and very quickly came under pressure. In an efort to turn the buiness around, they diversified into Shopfitting work.
Sadly, the business went bankrupt in 1972 when one particular contract left them significantly out of pocket.

She was the daughter of Henry Howard Wilson and his wife Mabel Leeson who married during q1/1922 at Coventry District.

Ten-year solution in caravan site row.
COMPROMISE seems likely in the year long row about the Avon View caravan site at Ryton. The site owner will probably withdraw the application for permanent planning permission. Instead, she will seek a 10-years period of temporary permission.
A meeting last night of Rugby plans sub-comittee heard that the county council had said they would give permission for 10 years rather than five if a temporary permission application was made.
The committee agreed in June last year to close down the site. Residents in the 22 mobile homes as well as the site owners, knew nothing a the threat until they read about it in the "Coventry Evening Telegraph."
He explained that the site had been receiving temporary permission since 1952, restricted each time to five years. Permission had again been granted for a five-year period last year, but residents had wanted security and had applied for a permanent site.
The site owner is Mrs Mabel Wilson. Her daughter. Mrs Edith Knibbs, is site manager and was at the meeting last night.
Screening
Mrs Knibbs today said that she would discuss the matter with their solicitor. She thought that he would recommend that they accept the 10 years without what she calls "the run down clause," which stated that they could not replace acaravan anybody left the site.
After a bitter campaign the tenants, Rugby Council's development committee reversed the plans subcommittee decision in March. They recommended that the county councils plans subcommittee should grant permanent planning permission.
The plans sub-committee were told last night that the county council had rejected this. They had said that if the application was withdrawn, they would give permission for 10 years rather than flve if there was a. temporary application.
`Unsettled'
Mr HaywardUnderhill, senior planning officer, said that this would be granted on condition that additional screening of the site was undertaken with trees and hedges planted on the west of the site.
She said that a further ten years would mean that the site had had temporary permission for 35 years and added: *I cant see that they will refuse it again after that if it is still running all right. I don't think there will be any trouble in getting it again."
She said: "The tenants have been unsettled for so long and I think now that they want something definite. It would have been nice if it was permanent but they have made it pretty obvious that we won't get that.
"I think we have not come out too badly. It was worth a fight.
