__________

John's grandson Allen Knight tells me that John was always so proud of his heritage and told him so much whilst he was growing up, taking took him to places where he worked to meet people who still worked and lived on the waterways even as late as the 1970’s and early 80’s. The last place John worked connected with the waterways was at Isleworth docks on the Thames as a crane driver, loading and unloading the barges. When they restored and redeveloped Isleworth docks they kept one of the original cranes as a reminder of the past and it just so happened to be his one and it’s still there today.

I understand from her grandson Allen Knight that Florence was born in the Aston area of Birmingham, on the narrow boat called "Lupin". She passed away in February 2003 at the West Middlesex hospital at Isleworth, London, due to a combination of delayed shock and other complications from breaking her hip from a fall a couple of weeks before.
