Notes for Mary J CLARKE:

From the Annual Report, of the Town of Andover,Receipts and Expenditures for year ending 7 February, 1876:
Mary J. Knibbs moved from Haverhill to the Almshouses.

The Report of the Overseers' of the Poor, identified that Mary was one of paupers remaining in the Almshouses at the end of the financial year. She was the only one in the age group 20-30 years. The report also made reference to the fact that Mary gave birth to a daughter that year.
__________

In 1880, we can see Mary, as a widow, living at Andover, Essex, Massachusetts in the household of a James Duncan:
James Duncan Head Mar 62 Scotland

Sarah E. Hunt 21 Massachusetts
Nancy Shattuck 27 Massachusetts
George Shattuck 30 Massachusetts
Frache L. Shattuck 3 Massachusetts

I'm pretty sure Henry was still living in 1880, so it may have simply been convenient to declare herself a widow.
