__________

I believe he was married to Mary J Clarke. We see her as a widow in 1880 with their daughter Clara. However, I suspect he never married Ida Pike, despite having children with her. After Henry died, she could be seen living with a man named Paul L Pike.
__________

The record for the birth of his son, Charles H Knibbs in 1878, stated that Henry was born in Newmarket, New Hampshire.
__________

From the Newburyport Daily Herald, May 20th , 1873:
Henry W. Knibbs, David Roach and and John Plunkett, all of Haverhill, were sentenced upon complaints appeal cases, for violation of the liquor law, to severally pay a fine of $10 and costs of $12.50 and recognise with sureties in the sum of $500 each not to violate the law relating to intocicating liquers for one year.

__________

From The Newburyport Daily News, 4 December 1893:

Notes for Ida E B COLBY:

Also known as: Ida e Colby

Ida's birth was registered as Ida E B Colby when she was born. Her parents were listed as J W Brickett and Julia A Colby, so presumably, they weren't married, and the initial "B" may well have been for "Brickett", from the surname of her father.

See Ida's Birth Certificate

__________

In 1855, we see Ida and her mother, presumably with Ida's maternal grandparents. living at Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts:
Philip Colby 56 Massachusetts
Susan Colby 59 Massachusetts
Wm W Colby 23 Massachusetts
Julia A Colby 22 Massachusetts
Idah E B Colby 3 Massachusetts
__________

We see Ida again in 1860, still living with her maternal grandparents:
Philip Colby 61 Massachusetts
Susan C Colby 64 Massachusetts
Ida E Brickett 9 New Hampshire
Wallace W Brickett 30 Massachusetts

A funny mix with Ida under her presumed dad's surname, living with her mums parents and her dad, but no sign of her mum.
__________

In 1865, she was still living at Haverhill:
Ida E Brickett 14 New Hampshire

Unfortunately, that was the only detail I could find.
__________

Ida married Moses Henry Chase in October 1871.
__________

Ida married Jacob Stone Pike in April 1880.
__________

So far as I can make out, Henry Knibbs and Ida never married. When their daughter Lena died, her parents were listed as Henry Knibbs and Ida Pike. Their first child was born in April 1878, so they must have been together from 1877.
__________

In 1880 we see Ida and their daughter Sarah Knibbs, living with Jacob Pike at Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts:
Jacob L Pike Head Mar 47 Massachusetts
Ida E Pike Wife 28 Keeping House New Hampshire
Benjamin J Pike Son 15 Bakery Massachusetts
Edward S Pike Son 9 Massachusetts
Sarah H Knibbs Daughter-in-Law 9 months Massachusetts
__________

Our gratitude goes to the members and volunteers at Find A Grave web site for recording the details, in memory of Ida.

Notes for Sarah H KNIBBS:

Sadly, we're not sure what happened to Sarah.

We see her in 1880 as an infant of 9 months, living at Newburyport, Essex County, Massachusetts:
Jacob L Pike Head Mar 47 Massachusetts
Ida E Pike Wife 28 Keeping House New Hampshire
Benjamin J Pike Son 15 Bakery Massachusetts
Edward S Pike Son 9 Massachusetts
Sarah H Knibbs Daughter-in-Law 9 months Massachusetts
Rose McMannus 16 Works in Cotton Mill Massachusetts
Kelley Owenia Wid 52 Keeping House Ireland

It's a little too coincidental that Ida E Pike above is the same age as Sarah's mother, Ida C Pike. I suspect it could be that Ida is in fact Sarah Knibbs' mother, and had returned to live with her husband, Jacob, after an affair with Henry Knibbs?

Note: there are several transcriptions of the census that show the head of household as Paul L Pike. My own interpretaion of the writing tells me it's Jacob.

Notes for Lena T KNIBBS:

Mary's parents were named as Henry W and Ida C (Pike) in the Death Register, so presumably, they weren't married.

See Lena's Death Registration.

Notes for Charles H KNIBBS:

See Charles' Death Registration.

I can't be sure of Charles' parentage, but given he died at such a young age, and the fact Henry and Ida Pike were listed as his parents in the Death Register, I suspect Ida was his mother, rather than Henry's wife Mary.
