From the Fulham Chronicle - 03 November 1916:
Tuesday. - Before Mr. T. K. Francis.
West Kensington Carman And Sore Horse.
Philip Batson, 16, a carman, of 41 Masbro-road, Blythe-road. West Kensington, was charged with cruelly to a horse by working it in unfit state at Kensington-road on October 24th. Frederick Chambers Pilgrim, of 7 St. Mary's Abbot-terrace, Kensington, was now summoned for causing the animal so worked. - P.C. Trinder 163B, stopped the horse because it appeared be in pain. Between the forelegs he found a large running wound, which was being rubbed the girth strap. Batson, the driver, said to the constable “I showed my master, and told me to take it out of the stable." The defendant Pilgrim afterwards said to the officer "I had no knowledge of it".
- Prisoner: There is an error there that the lad showed me the wound. He showed me where an old wound had been when the horse cam in about a foernight ago.
- William Kirk, veterinary surgeon, said he examined the animal on October 24th. It was a bad wound, seven or eight days old and was much inflamed through coming in contact with the girth strap; otherwise the horse was In very fair condition.
- Pilgrim was told to pay the costs, 21s. The driver was discharged.

PILGRIM - On January 4th 1942 Frederick Chambers Pilgrim F.R.H.S. aged 81 years - of 18 Addison road W14, A Member of the Royal Choral Society for years and Chorister at St Barnabas Church Kensington for the same period. Funeral Service St Barnabas Church on Saturday January 10th at 10.45. Interment at Kensington Cemetery Hanwell. Flowers to C. G. Hatt & Son Ltd., 82 Kensington High street, W8.
