Marian's book "Families are Always With Us", taken from the diaries of her husband Raymond, we can read that in around 1927, Joseph was working on a roof in Newtown Row, Aston, when the scaffolding collapsed and he was pitched down to the pavement. He suffered sever concussion from which it was feared he wouldn't live. Florence came across the accident whilst out shopping and was deeply shocked and affected by nerves as a result, for the rest of her life.
