A 16-year old Port Chester girl, the only survivor of a drag racing accident In which four young residents of that town died Saturday night, is in satisfactory condition today. Carol Prendys of 127 Pearl St., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Prendys, is in United Hospital, Port Chester, with wrist injuries. a possible concussion and a bruised lung. Her four companions were killed shortly after 11 p.m. at Purchase Street and Westchester Avenue, Harrison. Dead are Robert K. Arita, 17. Highview Ave., son of Mr. and Mts. Minoru Arita: Gennard (Jerry) J. Lovito, a Vietnam veteran, 17 Highview St., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lovito: Victoria Siano, 16. of 116 Fairview Ave., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Siano and Charlene Ceruzzi. 16, of 113 N. Ridge St.. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Ceruzzi. Arita was pronounced dead at the scene. Lovito and Miss Siano were pronounced dead at the hospital emergency room and Miss Ceruzzi died two hours later. A 19 year old Connecticut driver, Walter Z. Justyhskl of 50 Vine St.. New Britain t is being held without ball on charges of vehicular homicide, criminal negligence, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of a dangerous weapon. Police said they found brass knuckles in his car. Harrison police called to the scene found Lovito about 20 feet
In front of his car, Miss Siano about 23 feet behind the second car, which also crashed a short distance from the victims, and the other three passengers still In the later model vehicle which was upside clown beneath the Cross Westchester Expressway. Justynski and his companions, Thaddeus Golebiewski, 19. of 19 Nutmeg Lane, Newington, Conn., and Walter Steponavicius, 19, of 131 Wald St., Hartford. Conn., were picked up by police at the Harrison New Haven railroad station. The three said they had panicked after the crash and ran from the scene. Justynski told police he and the other car were racing on the eastbound side of Westchester Avenue. He estimated the Port Chester car was traveling at 85 miles an hour when the driver lost control attempting to negotiate a turn onto Purchase Street. It hit the right side of the guard rail at the base of a stanchion, skidded and overturned. Justynski, knowing the car would be in his path attempted to veer to the right on Purchase Street but was unable to and was stopped on the incline. The investigation has shown that Miss Prendys and the other two girls had been at the Surrey Restaurant at the Rye Ridge Shopping Center in Port Chester just before the accident. According to a witness they met the two youths at the parking lot.
