KNIBBS-PARKER A wedding which aroused considerable interest took place on Monday at Mortomley St. Saviour's Church on Saturday. The bride was Miss Betty Joyce Parker, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Parker, of 47, Westwood Row, High Green, and the bridegroom, Mr. Herbert Knibbs, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Knibbs, of 44 Wortley Road, High Green. The bridegroom is well known in local football circles. The Rev. T. French officiated. The bride who was tastefully attired in a gown of white net over taffeta with veil and wreath of orange blossom, carried a bouquet of cream roses and was given away by her father. Mr. Harry Knibbs, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, with Mr. Denis Gough, nephew of the bridegroom, as groomsman. The bridesmaids were Misses Emily and Betty Knibbs, sisters of the bridegroom, who were attired in pale blue net over taffeta, and wore haloes of pink and pale velvet leaves, and Misses Sheila Williamson, niece of the bridegroom, and Mary Hawks. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Westwood Mission Room. The mother of the bride wore a black ring velvet dress with hat and shoes to tone, while the mother of the bridegroom was attired in navy blue with hat and shoes to match. The couple will take up residence at 47, Westwood Row. There were many presents.

The Arsenal are keenly interested in three High Green young footballers, who play for High Green Athletic in the Sheffield Junior League. They are W. A. Fisher (left-back), H. Knibbs (right half-back) and J. Armitage (left half-back). The famous club has invited them to play with the Reserves against London University on Wednesday, February 19th. Fisher and Knibbs are both 20 and Armitage 19. They are all well-built lads. Fisher stands 5ft. 10ins, and scales 11st., Knibbs is 5ft. 9ins. and 12st., while Armitage's height is 5ft 9ins. and he weighs 10st. Fisher has had a run this season with Huddersfield Town Reserves in the Yorkshire Mid-week League.

MORTOMLEY.
Members of the Cart and Horses Hotel Angling Club, Mortomley, decided their annual match at Boston. Fourteen members took part and after three hours' fishing 13 of this number had caught fish. Results: C .Winterbottom 11b. 6½oz, E Matthewman llb 4¼oz, J Waterhouse 13¼oz, T Rawson 11½oz, F Matthewman 10oz, H Knibbs senr. 9oz, H Knibbs junr. 8½oz, J Towitt 5½oz, G Belk 4½oz, W Turner 3¼oz, A Kinch 3oz, R Riddle 2½oz, E Steele ½oz. The special prize offered for biggest fish caught was won by E Matthewman. H Knibbs senr. was awarded the special for the smallest fish caught, and C. Winterbottom merited the special for the most fish caught.

From the Mexborough & Swinton Times - 17 August 1940: Herbert Knibbs (24). son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Knibbs. of 44, Wortley Road. High Green, joined up on June 6th. and is stationed somewhere in Scotland. Well known in local football circles he played for High Green Athletic and won a couple of medals. He had a trial with the Arsenal. Before joining up he was employed for seven years by a local contractor and plasterer.
