We see from the Muster Roll for Officers and Enlisted Men of the U.S. Marine Corps, that Llloyd applied to enlist and enlisted at Portland, Oregon during the month of January, 1932.

Lloyd was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and lost his right leg between the knee and ankle during the invasion of Europe in World War II.

He enlisted in the army on 24 February 1942 at Los Angeles.

We see him arriving in New York in 1945 on the ship Aquitania with many other military casualties:

KNIBBS - Lloyd Carroll KNIBBS, 67, of 790 J Street., Springfield, died Sept. 5. A private graveside service will be held at the Willamette Cemetery, Portland. Buell Chapel in Springfield in charge of arrangements.

Former Printer dies in Portland; rites Thursday

A graveside service will be held in Portland Thursday for Lloyd Carroll Knibbs, 67, a former Register-Guard printer who died on Monday.
Knibbs, of 790 J St., Springfield, worked as a printer at the Register-Guard from 1966 until May 1974. He was a veteran of World War II.
Born March 18, 1910, in Hot Springs S.D., he was married to Loretta LeDoux on Sept, 21, 1949 in Reno, Nev.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Carol Myrick of Springfield; two sons, Boyd of St.Louis, Mo., and Thomas of California; a step-son, Norman Le-Doux of Toronto, Canada, and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Buell Chapel of Springfield is in charge of arrangements.


It's noted that Lloyd was a printer at Register-Guard from 1962 and not 1966 as given in the obituary, and his son is Lloyd and not Boyd.

Reta was the daughter of George Thomas Olds and his wife Traca (Miles) Olds who married on 10 Dec 1913. George Thomas Olds was the fourth child of Thomas and Eliza Jane (Hunt) Olds. He was born 12 August 1889 at Lyman, Wayne County, Utah and died 30 Jan 1972. died 25 July 1957.
Traca Miles was born 1 March 1892 in St. George, to Adolphus and Myrza Jane Alexander Whitehead. She died died 25 July 1957.
