The Star Inn is still operating and lies approximately at the half way point on the Trent and Mersey canal. The first mention of The Star selling ale is in 1568. The original cottage and outbuildings were used by the slaughter men to the local Priory, but when Henry VIII closed the Churches and Monasteries, the landowner went out of business, so he turned to brewing. About 1824 a full licence was granted to the then landlord so that he could "provide the boatmen with spirits for medicinal purposes" as The Star was the only canal side pub on the Trent and Mersey at that time.
The current owners, Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries, extended The Star to its current size, but have left the original grade II listed bar as it was.
