__________

The first I knew of Irene was in the 5 generation photograph above, where she was shown as Mrs Archie Young. I had no idea of her name, but the photograph clearly identified her as the daughter of Minnie Roberts. Shirley Walter, a descendent of one of Minnie's brothers came across the Estate Papers of Elizabeth Judd who was a sister of Elija Roberts, Irene's grandfather
These papers identify Irene M Young living at 501 Lighthouse Road, New Haven, Connecticut, USA which happens to be the same address given in the document for her uncle, Arthur Roberts.

The document also identifies a Miss Rena M Roberts, a Mrs Hazel B Wright and a Miss Carol E Roberts.

Shirley also gave me a photograph of Irene, taken when she was a young girl of about 7 or 8 years of age.

We still don't know a great deal about Irene. Shirley Walter gave me a copy of the postcard shown below which tells us a little about her. It was sent to her uncle, Howard Roberts in February 1945. I suspect she may have married for a second time. Her first husband was Archie, but in the postcard she refers to Gus. It seems that they took a long stay in California between October 1944 and March 1945, so I wonder why that was? It wasn't purely vacation because Gus got a job in a piano shop whilst they were there. She talks of returning to Clinton (Connecticut?) where they have an antique shop which they planned to open on 15 April that year.

Story has it that "a daughter of Minnie Roberts" had gone to California and ended up marrying a big Hollywood movie producer. The only child of Minnie we know of is Irene. We know that she did at some time go to California, but so far, her marriage to a movie producer hasn't been confirmed. Maybe Gus mentioned on the postcard was that movie producer!
