Notes for Capt. Thomas CARR:

In 1841, Thas was living at Queen Street, Kings Lynn, Norfolk, with the family of a Thomas Wright:
Thomas Wright 55 Labourer
Elizabeth Wright 55
Harriet Wright 25
Harriet Wright 6
Elizabeth Wright 3
Thomas Carr 25 Mariner
__________

In 1851, we see who we believe to be this Thomas, living at Lime Kiln Walk, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk with his first wife:
Thomas Carr Head Mar 38 Waterman Norfolk Yarmouth
Maria Carr Wife Mar 39 Norfolk Yarmouth
__________

Thomas Carr can be seen in 1861 as a visitor to the home of Maria Oman's parents at Little Thames Street, Whitechapel, London, Middlesex, England. Maria (later to be his 1st wife) was also there at the time in the name of Maria Rushworth from her 1st marriage.
William Oman Head Married M 59 Dock Master Buckinghamshire
Mary A Oman Wife Married F 59 Bermondsey Surrey
Marion Knibbs Granddaughter F 14 Scholar Mile End Bermondsey Middlesex
Ellen Munford Granddaughter F 12 Scholar Aldgate Middlesex
Thomas Carr Visitor Widower M 47 Master Mariner Lynn Norfolk
Ann Dalyleith Servant Unmarried F 59 Cook Limehouse Middlesex
Mary A Spackman Servant Unmarried F 18 House Servant Shalford Essex
Maria Rushworth Daughter F 35 Limehouse Middlesex

I believe that the Granddaughter given as Marion Knibbs age 14 is in fact Maria Knibbs, the daughter of Edwin George KNIBBS and his wife Elizabeth (Oman).
__________

Thomas Carr can be seen in the 1881 census living with his third wife Maria (Knibbs) Carr and 5 children. They were all living at 265 Strand, London, Middlesex, England.
Thomas Carr Head Mar 67 Licensed Victualler Lynn Norfolk
Maria Carr Wife Mar 35 Licensed Victualler Inn Sert (In Doubt As To Place)

Mary Ann Carr Daur UnM 18 Inn Serv Aldgate Middlesex

Edith E Carr Daur UnM 2 Strand Middlesex
Lionel Carr Son >1 Strand Middlesex
Kate Horton Serv UnM 21 Servant (Domestic) Newington Middlesex
Eliza Enticott Serv UnM 18 Servant (Domestic) Axminster Devon

This Maria is Thomas' third wife. His second wife was also named Maria. She was Maria Oman, the sister of Elizabeth Oman who married Edwin George Knibbs.

Thomas' third wife Maria was in fact his neice by marriage. She was the daughter of Edwin George Knibbs and Elizabeth Oman.

The children Thomas, Mary Ann and William are Thomas' children from his first marriage to Maria Oman, so they are in fact both first cousin and step-children of Maria, his second wife above.

Notes for Maria OMAN:

The following details appear inthe 1861 census, all Little Thames Street, Whitechapel, Middlesex, England:
William Oman Head Mar 59 Dock Master Buckinghamshire
Mary A Oman Wife Mar 59 Surrey Bermondsey
Marion Knibbs Granddaughter 14 Scholar Niddlesex Mile End Old Town
Ellen Munford Granddaughter 12 Scholar Middlesex Aldgate
Thomas Carr Visitor Widr 47 Master Mariner Norfolk Lynn
Ann Dalgleish Servant UnM 59 Cook Middlesex Limehouse
Mary A Trackman(?) Servant UnM 18 House Servant Essex Shalford
Maria Rushworth Daur 35 Middlesex Limehouse

Maria Rushworth is of course, Maria Oman. Unfortunately the census doesn't say if she was married or widowed at that time.

I believe that William and Mary Oman are the parents of Maria Oman. We can see in the household that there is a granddaughter Marion, who I am sure is in fact Maria Knibbs, the daughter of Edwin George Knibbs and his wife Elizabeth, who was Maria's sister.

It's interesting to see Thomas Carr living in the household as a visitor and widower. We know that he eventually went on to marry two of the females from this family. He married Maria Oman who died in 1876, and then he married her neice Maria Knibbs in 1877.
