Mary Christina HOFFMEISTER was born August 1848 in Bergholz, Wheatfield County, New York, USA. She died 07 January 1928 in St Louis, St Louis County, Missouri, USA.

Edward D. Knibbs, Former NT Resident, Dies Suddenly.
Edward D. Knibbs, who since the death of his wife last January has been making his home in Sun Prairie, Wis., with his daughter, Mrs. L. W. Porter, passed away suddenly Monday, May 6, in that home. He had been in his usual health. In fact, had returned on Saturday from a visit to relatives in North Tonawanda. Heart failure was assigned as the cause of his death. He was 75 years old.
Mr. Knibbs was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., April 15, 1854, in which town he grew to manhood. On July 19, 1876, he was untied in marriage to Mary Hoffmeister, and to this union three children were born, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are David Charles of St. Louis, Mo., and (Frances) Mrs. L. W. Porter of Sun Prairie.
The greater portion of their lives was spent in North Tonawanda. In 1918, they went to Michigan, locating at Menominee, which was their home until about a year ago, when owing to advancing age they gave up their home, and since then had divided their time between their son at St. Louis, and daughter in San Prairie. Since the death of Mrs. Knibbs, in January 1929, he has been with his daughter in San Prairie.
Mr. Knibbs was an Odd Fellow and carried membership in Electric City Lodge, I.O.O.F., North Tonawanda.

Funeral Service* for Edward D. Knibbs Held from Daughter’s Home SUN PRAIRIE—Funeral services for Edward D. Knibbs. To. who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lyle Porter, Monday noon, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:Uh from the residency of Mrs. Porter. The Rev. Harold Trost, of the First Methodist church officiated, and interment will he in the Sun Prairie cemetery. Mr. Knibbs was born at Niagara Falls, April 15, 1854. He resided for many years at North Tonawanda. N. Y., and for IO years at Menomonie. Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Knibbs recently moved to Sun Prairie to live with their daughter. Mrs. Kntbbs died In January. Mr. Knibbs had been In very good health, and had just returned Saturday. from a trip to Canada, New York and Pennsylvania. He died of heart trouble. He Is survived bv one son, David ???????; a daughter. Mrs. Lyle Porter, Sun Plaine; a grandchild. Jane Porter; and a sister at Ontario, Can.; and a brother at Warren. Pa. property.

From the North Tonawanda Evening News, Thursday 22 March, 1900:
Christian Hoffmeister, Aged 86 Departs This Life.
Christian F Hoffmeister an old and respected resident of Bergholz died yesterday afternoon. The deceased had been sick but a few days and died shortly after alighting from his carriage. The direct cause of death was heart failure.
Christian F Hoffmeister was 86 years and 6 months old and came to this country from Germany in 1844, settling in the town of Bergholz where he resided up to the time of his death.
Besides a widow, two daughters, Mrs. William A. Gardel, and Mrs. David Knibbs of this city and two sons and a daughter in Michigan survive. The funeral services will be held from the late home in Bergholz at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Mary Christina Hoffmeister-Knibbs, mother of Mrs. L. W. Porter of this village, died at St. Louis, MO at 10:30 Monday morning, January 7, 1929 in the home of her son, D. C. Knibbs. Her age was 80 years, 4 months, and 26 days. Death came after a brief illness from heart trouble. Deceased was born in Bergholz, NY and at the age of 16 was united in marriage to William Moore. Her young married life was soon to be broken, however, for death claimed her young husband in about a year, leaving her with an infant son, William Jr. On July 19, 1876 she was united in marriage to Mr. E. D. Knibbs. Three children were born to this union, two are living; one son dying in infancy. They are a son, D. C. Knibbs of St. Louis and Mrs. L. W. Porter of Sun Prairie. The greater portion of her life was spent in her native state. The past 20 or more years, Mr. and Mrs. Knibbs have resided at Menomonee, MI. About a year ago they were urged to give up housekeeping because of advancing years and frail health and have since been dividing their time in the homes of their two children. They have been spending the winter in St. Louis with their son, out of whose home she passed to her home Eternal. She is survived by her husband and three children, David C. Knibbs of St. Louis, Mrs. L. W. Porter of Sun Prairie, and William Moore of Los Angeles, CA; one granddaughter, Anne Marie Porter of Sun Prairie, and three sisters living in New York State. The remains arrived her yesterday accompanied by her husband, E. D. Knibbs and son, David and funeral services were held at 2:30 this (Thursday) afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. W. Porter, Rev. H. G. Trost, pastor of First M. E. Church officiating. Interment was made in the village cemetery beside the remains of her little granddaughter, "Peggy" Elaine Porter.

There is some uncertainty abiut when Mary died. Her headstone gives the year as 1929, but her oibituary says 1928.
